Put the blindfold on and walk the minefield.

Blind to your mind, blind to your power, blind to the world.

Basic Info
Name:Quirinus Quirrel
Bio
6 days and counting

Name: Quirinus Quirrel

Gender: Male, hell yeah.

Year & House: Sixth, Ravenclaw

Affiliation: Neutral.

Appearance: Quirinus is rather tall for his age, but with it is also very skinny and almost gaunt. This isn’t through any ill health, just an odd twist of nature and genes. He is abnormally pale due to the amount of time he spends inside, reading as much as he can possibly get his hands on. Both of these lead many people to believe he is actually seriously ill, but they are just a result of his reclusive nature. His eyes are in no way remarkable, but are a deep, almost emotionless, grey, which does appear blue in some lights. He has short, curly, dirty blonde to light brown hair, which he does attempt to neaten up, but sometimes it just doesn’t agree with him, but when he has a good reason to appear smart, he combs it very neatly, almost looking like he was from the 1940s, rather than 70s. He makes sure he dresses neatly, as it is a matter of pride that has been instilled in him from an early age.

History:

Quirinus was born on the 30th of May (same date as Peter the Great of Russia) 1961 into a wealthy, but relatively new pureblood family, as he had great grandparents with half blood at least. This made him and his parents insecure about their blood politics, but none of them extroverted their opinions, just kept them to themselves, for fear of offending distant relatives. Quirinus’ family is reasonably stable and normal, really, with his father, Reuben working as a leading magical archivist, specialising in family trees and his mother, playing the typical house wife, so he grew up with very traditional gender roles and is passively chauvinistic, but respects women’s intelligence, because it was his mother that introduced him to literature, music and intellectual pursuits in general. From being very small, he and his mother spent days reading books, listening to music and discussing them in their extensive library at his house near Inverness. However, when he was teased at his Muggle primary school for being a bit ‘weird’ because of his intellectual interests, and kids were always determined to beat him in tests because he had a habit of being a know-it-all, he seriously began to doubt his own intelligence. His parents constantly demanded he got the best results and still do, constantly telling him he’s not clever enough and needs to do better. What they don’t realise is that, although this motivates him to read everything he can lay his hands on and to get good grades, is that he has no confidence in his own ability and he often feels insecure about his own intelligence.

However, his family also impressed upon him the need to make friends and to socialise, so quite often he’ll relax from the pressure he’s put under by talking to anyone and everyone. Once you pull him away from the books, he’s much more outgoing and confident. It’s only when you talk to him about his own intelligence that he retreats into his shell.

Personality:

Quirrel is what most people would describe as a very odd child. He is very intelligent, even if most of his intellect is from books rather than natural and loves virtually everyone of his classes. He has a deathly fear of failure and never can convince himself that what he has done is good enough. He doesn’t understand why all his teachers give him such good marks when he’s blatantly not that clever.

As a result of this, he has somewhat of an inferiority complex and this means when he does get into conversations and away from his school work, he’s outgoing and friendly, wanting people to accept him more than anything. He still has a slightly power mad streak, but he comes across more as a control freak than anything. He loves History in general, especially Magical history, but Muggle history too. He takes a great interest in Emperors and the powerful people of history, wanting to learn from their example. However, even though he likes both History of Magic and Ancient Runes, his favourite class by far is Defence Against the Dark Arts. He’s a firm believer in knowing your enemy and is impressed by the amount of power he can weild with them. Whereas his interest in history is an intellectual one, spurred on by his parents, Defence is his natural interest and one which captivates him. He still loves literature, especially Crime and Punishment, but doesn’t obsess over it as much as he used to.

All in all, he’s the nice, but really quite weird, kid. There’s a part of him, deep down, that wants to control people and find a way to make him feel superior to them, but most of the time, he’s quite content with making friends and finding a sense of self-worth that way. They’re the two thing he’s learnt to be important in life, intelligence and socialising. One he never thinks he can do, but can and the other he is pretty confident with, but not that great with. He does have a tendancy to be a bit unusual and do things his way, like dressing smartly and going off on very odd little tangents and moments of madness, but he doesn’t really see how this will affect how people relate to him.

What has changed about your character:

What hasn’t? He’s humble about his intelligence to the point of nearly being a Hufflepuff and lacks confidence in his intelligence. He’s friendly and outgoing to people and not so much of a git (although he does have a tendancy to bitch, here and there). He’s no prude and is perfectly up for a laugh/drink/smoke (with persuasion)/sex if it’s going. He still has a sense of decorum and is polite, mainly. He cares about his appearance, but still doesn’t realise he looks a bit silly, really. He isn’t as much up his own arse and is all in all a bit more normal, even if he does have his creepy, power mad moments. Even so, he keeps them to himself.
